Do you mean that it whether it holds up isn’t relevant because pop culture is so fragments that the concept of an old movie “holding up” is becoming meaningless, or that you personally are so nostalgically attached to the movie that you don’t care if it’s actually bad? I really just meant to ask if you think it’s actually a good movie, although it sounds like you might not have watched it recently enough.

I think Batman Forever is more bad than good, although the villains were well cast. It’s not a monstrosity like the next movie though. I’ve never actually seen Falling Down.

Re “Sometimes hacks make good movies too, I guess.” People use “hack” differently. My problem with Schumacher isn’t that he was just an assembly line technician or or someone who mostly just tried to do what was commercial, or something like that. That’s what I think of as “hack,” and certainly those kinds of directors make good movies (less likely IMHO, now, because Hollywood has been so taken over by stylistic trends that I hate). Alot of Batman & Robin might not have been his fault, but there’s a personal style there that I dislike. A Time to Kill is streaming now so maybe I’ll just watch it. For big courtroom dramas of that era, I’ve never seen A Few Good Men either. I should probably watch that too, maybe first.

Put me in the camp that thinks Anatomy of a Murder is the gold standard for courtroom dramas.
