Reading through the reviews I saw pretty much every take on the trans issue that you could imagine. That the movie is pioneering for having a trans villian, that it’s transphobic for having a trans villain, that she’s not really a trans villain at all because the weird aunt raised her as a girl and brainwashed her, that the movie is evil for having a trans villain (yes I found a Christian site that reviewed it), blah blah blah. I thought it was funnier to read commentary on men wearing short shorts and stripey socks back then.
