Index > Another list to argue about

OK going into this list blind lets see what songs i have thoughts on…
Maxwell’s Silver Hammer - i find it funny how Abbey Road is routinely listed as one of the greatest albums of all time yet people love to shit on this song. Sorry guys but you can’t have it both ways if this song was truly that bad then Abby Road wouldn’t be the Beatles best album, which it is (or it’s in the top 3 anyway). People act like it’s “Mr Moonlight” or something, nope it might be silly novelty song but it’s still goofy Paul pop goodness.
Hit the Plane Down - I’m not the biggest pavement fan but this never stuck me as a lowlight on CRCR. i dont love it but its fine.
Silver - Side 2 of dolittle is a big step down from side 1, but this is in the better half of songs from that side IMO. I like that it sounds like nothing else on the album.
Anything Goes - yeah this sucks but I’d more like to question Appetite For Destruction being called a “great album”. GNR have no great albums! Their best album is their greatest hits. I saw them play this live when they toured to vancouver in 2023 and it sucked and the whole show was pretty lame tbh, I didnt have to pay for my ticket though so no regrets.
Illegal Alien - this song is very cringe but damn what a great hook it has. It’s Gonna Get Better, and Taking It All Too Hard are both weaker songs from that album.
The Last Time - As this board’s Taylor Swift apologist I will say that this song is fine, not a highlight not a lowlight. I would not have guessed this would have been their Swfit pick it doesn’t stand out from the rest as being particularly different in any notably bad way imo (Bad Blood from 1989, now that’s a standout dud if there ever was one), the album has several songs in the back half that I like less than this one.
Drunk and Hot Girls - This song samples Can therefore it cannot be bad.
Cans and Brahms - i’ll give them this one. Apparently the only reason this was Wakman’s contribution to the album was because some contractual thing between labels made it so that he couldnt have an original composition on their albums. “Catherine of Aragon” could have been on Fragile instead, that would have been sweet.
The Battle of Epping Forest - No. This is as great as anything else on the album. If you’re going to pick a selling england song “more fool me” seems like the more obvious pick for a lowlight (though I also like that song).
Take Up Thy Stethoscope and Walk - yeah this song is terrible. Going back to the earliest days of my music listening when i first heard this record in my early teens I was still like “wtf??” to this song. Swap this song out for Arnold Layne or See Emily Play and the album would be even better.
Rainy Day Women # 12 & 35 - this is a weird pick. One of Dylans most iconic songs, it’s a killer opening track for the album and I’ve always been a big fan of it.
E-Mail My Heart - yeah this song is awful, but most of this album is awful. I’m a big pop fan, but I don’t think Britney was ever much of an album artist. Most of her albums are 2-3 great singles and a bunch of crud.
What’s Become of the Baby - I love the greatful dead to bits, but yep this song blows.
The Lady in My Life - great pick. this and The Girl Is Mine both hold back Thriller from being a truly great album.
Run for Your Life - yeah this song is kinda meh. I dont hate it but it’s a decent beatles pick i suppose.
Bad Blood - OK I guess I already predicted this. Clunky beat, plodding sing-songy tune, by a mile the worst song on one of her best albums. The remix with Kendrick Lamar is fun though.
The Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill - This is a fine song. I like how weird it is. There are several White album tracks that could have been chosen instead of this one. Revolution 9, Long Long Long, Wild Honey Pie. Even Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da would have been an decent pick (I dont hate it or antyhing, but everything people like to complain about with “maxwells siver hammer” goes double for that song).
Lily, Rosemary, and the Jack of Hearts - another instance where even if I dont love the song I don’t really get why people like to pile on it. Seems like a fine album track to me.
Good Morning Good Morning - I guess I can let this one slide. It probably is the weakest tune on the album. But really, its still fine.
Silas Stingy - Yeah this song is annoying.
Student Demonstration Time - I’ve come to enjoy it ironically, but yeah this is a legendary dud. there were like 3 Dennis Wilson classics left on the cutting room floor for this to make the album instead and keeping those off the album is just unforgiveable. it’s also ruined “Riot in Cell Block 9” for me forever because I cannot hear that song without hearing the SDT lyrics in my head instead.
My World - Again, this is a terrible song but should not make the list because Guns and Roses have no great albums. Though Illusions could have been a decent album at least if both volumes were boiled down to the best 45 minutes.
Seamus - what a weird pick to rank all the way at #2. It’s no classic but it’s a brief little interlude and does that job decently enough.
Mother - I kinda like that they had the audacity to include this song on the album tbh.
