I overall liked the Basement Tapes (I’m kind of not counting the Big Pink bonus tracks in factoring the score I have in my head) but I’ll pass on the box set. In general I’m pretty grateful that Bob’s albums haven’t all been reissued with a bonus disc of junk and I’m saying that knowing full well that the guy has released shit tons of archival stuff.
If I knew that stuff about Robertson intentionally muddying the waters, I probably blotted it out of my mind.
Yeah, “Let’s Be Still” is probably second only to the 7-minute “Big Day Coming” (the dreamy one, not the roaring one) as the best YLT song in my book–utterly beautiful morning driving music. I like pretty much everything on Summer Sun, a dream-pop compendium that I consider YLT’s crowning achievement. Almost nobody else thinks so–the reviews weren’t very nice and I remmeber Pitchfork trashing LBS specifically.
Geez, Sun Ra. Is he gonna get the biopic treatment, ‘cause that would be sumf’n.
