I seem to recall that some of the reviews posted in review sections for individual albums were copy and pasted from John Mc’s site and I swear E was in there a few times as well.
There are also some funny Mr. Cranky-style hot-take putdowns by this guy named Spike Hyzer who I think has commented on Prindle’s site as well.
I could usually tell a Stephen Thomas Erlewine review by the tone, but I guess that’s not always necessarily a good thing (I can’t be bothered to go check if that Rolling Stones review he did still contains the immortal line “Although they would be nastier in the future, they would never again be this nasty” or whatever it was) and I also suppose he’s not really a “face.” Then again maybe it’s a sign of how old I am in the year 2025 that I even think of reviewers in terms of being able to remember their style. Guess the Gen-Z kids don’t do that much eh? I was first accessing the All Music Guide in high school around 2000 or so when a guy on ICQ recommended it to me and said I’d spend HOURS and HOURS on it. It also looked quite a bit different. It was their big glowing five star review of Murmur that convinced me to be interested in that album.
So since the site hasn’t been terribly popular for awhile I guess the asking-for-money thing will fail and they’ll go the way of Pitchfork, eh?
