I typed out a really long reply and then lost it. :-( whoever programmed this website did a horrible job

It’s definitely worthy; it’s very similar to FF Tactics

Damn, Tactics is another game on my endless backlog. How do y’all manage with an infinite supply of good media and such limited time to read/play/watch/listen to it all? I think I’ll play the Ogre Battle series eventually— it sounds worthy— but there’s quite a lot of games that are further up on my list.

FF1 is still worth playing

Good to know about FF1 and 2. I think I’m most likely to just start with VI and, if it hits, eventually go back to play IV and V. I like to start with the most acclaimed game in a series first and work my way backwards if I enjoy the gameplay (and the story doesn’t matter too much to the later entries in the series).

You know about Dragon Quest 3. It’s the first game in the series I’d recommend to the casual RPG player: they ironed out a lot of the un-fun parts of the first two games and there’s a job system, and actually a pretty good one

Wait, job system? I don’t recall that. Are you talking about the personality system that changes the rate at which you level up certain attributes? And damn, I didn’t know about the Octopath-style remake. If I had known that was on the horizon, I would probably have waited for that to land. As it stands though, I don’t think I’m gonna finish DQ3. I played about 80% of the game and the last 20% has gotten really tedious. The battle system just doesn’t have enough depth to keep me very interested at this point.

Ever heard of Shining in the Darkness/Shining Force/Shining Force 2 for Genesis

I have heard of these games! I intend to play them eventually. I heard that you should just watch a recap of the first two games and then start with the 3rd. I didn’t realize they were tactical RPGs though. As for the SaGa collection, I may play those eventually because Gameboy games are pretty fun and easy to pick-up-and-play on my retro gaming handhelds. There’s something nice about having a simple game you can pick up whenever and play for 5 minutes. Not totally sure if SaGa really fits that description though.

Chrono Trigger is one of the most overrated games on SNES and it’s cracking fantastic. Both these things can be true.

I just started it last week and I can certainly see how this could be true. I’ve always heard that it’s the best RPG ever made. It’s a great and very inventive game so far, but there’s a lot of competition for “the greatest RPG ever made”. I’m really enjoying it though and trying to savor it :-)
