I’m glad he got it made but it’s a garish, incoherent mess and not the kind that left me curious to see it again. I just don’t see it getting better with repeated viewings. At least “One from the Heart” couched its studied artificiality in a straightforward narrative. the characters are all ciphers, even the ones that get a lot of screen time and the actors don’t seem to know what the larger picture is - it doesn’t help that Adam Driver and Shia LaBeouf are not interesting or charismatic. As one review put it…
“if you’re looking for a Coppola-directed tale of New York-based power struggles within a dynasty of Italian heritage, let’s just say there are better options”
