I thought The Sound and the Fury was more difficult than Go Down, Moses.

After your buildup of how brutal Moses is, I didn’t think it was as tough as advertised. Not that it’s a light read or anything.

but I can’t say I’ve ever heard anything by Rainbow in public.

They probably don’t pass your grocery store test, but I’ve heard Man on the Silver Mountain on the radio many times. Probably a couple other songs at least once or twice.

I might be wrong, but I know people thought that song was about people who hated both candidates in 2000, of which, you recall, there were many!!!

Most of American in 2000: “Could these candidates be any worse.” If we they knew…
I don’t remember that about the song, but people probably said that. Do you really see it in the lyrics though?

Tweedle-Dee Dum and Tweedle-Dee Dee
They’re throwing knives into the tree
Two big bags of dead man’s bones
Got their noses to the grindstones
Living in the Land of Nod
Trustin’ their fate to the hands of God
They pass by so silently
Tweedle-Dee Dum and Tweedle-Dee Dee
Well, they’re going to the country, they’re gonna retire
They’re taking a streetcar named desire
Looking in the window at the pecan pie
Lot of things they’d like they would never buy
Neither one gonna turn and run
They’re making a voyage to the sun
“His Master’s voice is calling me”
Says Tweedle-Dee Dum to Tweedle-Dee Dee
Tweedle-Dee Dee and Tweedle-Dee Dum
All that and more and then some
They walk among the stately trees
They know the secrets of the breeze
Tweedle-Dee Dum said to Tweedle-Dee Dee
“Your presence is obnoxious to me”
They’re like babies sittin’ on a woman’s knee
Tweedle-Dee Dum and Tweedle-Dee Dee
Well, the rain beating down on my windowpane
I got love for you and it’s all in vain
Brains in the pot, they’re beginning to boil
They’re dripping with garlic and olive oil
Tweedle-Dee Dee, he’s on his hands and his knees
Saying, “My plan to put Social Security in an ironclad lockbox has gotten a lot of attention recently, and I’m glad about that. But I’m afraid that it’s overshadowing some vitally important proposals. For instance, I’ll put Medicaid in a walk-in closet. I’ll put the Community Reinvestment Act in a secured gym locker. I’ll put NASA funding in a hermetically sealed Ziploc bag.”
“I’m beginning to think not only did he invent the Internet, but he invented the calculator. It’s fuzzy math. It’s a scaring – he’s trying to scare people in the voting booth”
Says Tweedle-Dee Dum to Tweedle-Dee Dee
Well, they’re living in a happy harmony
Tweedle-Dee Dum and Tweedle-Dee Dee
They’re one day older and a dollar short
They’ve got a parade permit and a police escort
They’re lying low and they’re makin’ hay
They seem determined to go all the way
They run a brick and tile company
Tweedle-Dee Dum and Tweedle-Dee Dee
Well, a childish dream is a deathless need
And a noble truth is a sacred creed
My pretty baby, she’s lookin’ around
She’s wearin’ a multi-thousand dollar gown
Tweedle-Dee Dee is a lowdown, sorry old man
Tweedle-Dee Dum, he’ll stab you where you stand
“I’ve had too much of your company, “
Said, Tweedle-dee dumb to Tweedle-dee Dee

I always remember Ozzy being very popular, and at by time I was aware of what music he was known for Paranoid, as an album, had as many songs that were still getting radio play as No More Tears did. I definitely remember Sabbath as a popular classic rock band. This was around the time of their late 90s reunion though, so maybe that’s relevant. There were rare Black Sabbath demos on The Ozzman Cometh comp that came out around then, I remember alot of people having that comp.

For their influence on grunge, it wasn’t just Nirvana. Soundgarden and Alice in Chains were big fans and cited them as a major influence. Chris Cornell said that Sabbath “save him from being a KISS fan,” or something like that. And of course they influence all the metal bands. Nobody knew or cared about the Iommi and Friends years.
I had a friend who had a shirt like this: https://www.walmart.com/ip/VTG-Born-again-Black-Sabbath-Band-Short-Sleeve-Black-All-Size-Shirt-CH340/8086573572?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=102493208&gclsrc=aw.ds&&adid=222222222278086573572_102493208_151374626767_19916690107&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=c&wl3=653079338126&wl4=pla-2032512141964&wl5=9016261&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=5381002423&wl11=online&wl12=8086573572_102493208&veh=sem&gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMItJrkxKfjhwMVsTUIBR1zxikwEAQYBSABEgLYUvD_BwE

I was nice and never informed him that it was an album cover from a post-Ozzy album that he’d never heard of and probably wouldn’t have liked. That cover is ugly anyway. It’s funny that it’s even being sold in the 21st century.
