I don’t know anything about that band aside from their big radio hits, and if they were playing locally I would not go see them, but since you said “Honestly, I’m not sure how they’d even make money at this point,” I was curious what they are charging, so I checked a bunch of concerts and the cheap seats run $50-$65. That seems expensive to me. I don’t mean based on what I personally would pay to see Kansas (basically nothing), I mean that I’ve seen a bunch of classic rock bands from the nosebleed section, and I’d expect to pay less for a classic band with only maybe two songs I know from classic rock radio, and only two members who were in the band in their heyday. Maybe I’m underestimating the loyalty of people who grew up with Kansas when they were actually a current band, but as someone who grew up listening to classic rock and had friends who also listened to classic rock, I didn’t think of them as a band that had lasted beyond a few songs. Or maybe there are just fewer ’70s bands touring now so they can charge more money. Although as the bands get older I’d expect the concerts to get worse, thus balancing the value of the tickets.
The band now is:
Phil Ehart – drums, percussion (1970-1971, 1973–1984, 1985–present)
Rich Williams – lead and rhythm guitars (1973–1984, 1985–present)
Billy Greer – bass, acoustic guitar, backing and lead vocals (1985–present)
Ronnie Platt – lead and backing vocals, keyboards (2014–present)
Tom Brislin – keyboards, backing and lead vocals (2018–present)
Joe Deninzon – violin, seven string electric violin, rhythm guitar, backing vocals (2023–present)
if that means anything to you.
