If you put a gun to my head, I can say that Hysteria is catchy and memorable and has some decent songwriting even I don’t want to play this in front of other people
However the Drastic Symphonies album is basically the same song removing or dampening 80’s production and aesthetic and some light orchestration in the background. Although for a few song there is some proggy moments.
I actually wish more 80’s act do this more.
Re-recording 80’s pop/rock song and removing 80’s mainstream 80’s production, aesthetics and sound
Only other examples I can think about this
Live albums such as Crowded House Farewell To The World where every song from the first two albums sounds better than the studio because there is no 80’s production\
Marvin Gaye Indiannopolis live bootleg from the Midnight Love tour. The songs from that album sounds much much better live
Sparks Plagiarism was a missed opportunity. Pulling Rabbits, Changes should have been the framework of the album of turning 80’s synthpop to chamber pop music orchestral arrangement. However they also turn 70’s rock song into synth pop such as Amateur Hour which ruin the song.
