I got my CDs in order and on the racks. It was something that needed to be done for about five years and when I did it, I confirmed why I had been putting it off for so long: it took five hours on the living-room carpet after I got all my CDs together to sort them alphabetically (A-B, C-F, G-K, L-O, P-R, S, T-Z), cleaning them when necessary. (A stack of CDs sitting out had a run-in with a chocolate Frosty and I had to scrape all that off ) I then sorted eaxh grouping of CDs into alphabetical and then standard order‡.

With an array of alphabetical stacks, I then put them on the cleared racks. I have six shelves left. Once I fill them, that will be my collection for a lifetime. I’m already at that point with my LPs; I’m never buying classical vinyl again nor will I get rid of the ones I do have.

But this got me to spinning CDs. I fell asleep to Glenn Gould’s 1981 Goldbergs and tonight I’m going to put on Murray Perahia’s.
