Regarding your original question, it’s probably dealing with online experiences that skew demographically, since the shift away from Facebook didn’t happen for alot of older users who have never heard of all the influencers they’re discussing in that article. I don’t use social media, so I’m not a great one to ask, although the rise of professional and semi-professional youtubers and podcasters isn’t something I overlooked. But there’s alot of stuff on the timeline in that article that isn’t familiar at all. I remember all the racial protest stuff, and I heard about the Ice Bucket Challenge and Gamergate when they were current, or at least recent, but mostly second hand. TBH, I still don’t remember any details of Gamergate.
