To be fair, I only listened to Spike maybe twice (and God, that album cover.) I don’t remember it well at all but I remember not finding it terribly memorable (and remember, my chief complaint against Costello is that he just plain writes too many goddamn songs) and doing the rest of the Costello catalogue isn’t any sort of big priority of mine.
(Except for that album of country covers, some rarities, and that album from 1984 where the liner notes start with him telling you “congratulations, you just purchased the worst album of my career!,” I’m familiar with everything he did between 1977 and 1986.)
