Yeah none of that bothers me with TLDP. Debut is great if they never top it that’s still nothing to sneeze at. But hopefully they can keep it going.
Recently I had a discussion with a guy where I mentioned that I had recently seen a Vampire Weekend concert and this triggered the guy to go on a tirade about how one time when Vampire Weekend were on their first tour they played a show with this guy’s friend’s band and they acted entitled or douchy or something in regards to the beer situation backstage. And he tied this in with the band being rich and that giving them a leg up on his friends band that had been playing for way longer. I get being annoying by artists who have more oppertunities than you but like… that’s just how it is sometimes? Artists have a variety of different paths to success and that’s totally fine in my opinion. Maybe your’s friends band didnt make it big after touring for ages was because your friends band sucked?
The Pipettes fell off because the band fell apart I think they could have kept a good run going had that not happened. But they were still a flash in the pan type of thing for sure. That being said the current era of pop artists does scratch a similar itch for me, and I wonder if the band was an influence on any current pop artists. Like in my post below, “Please Pleaase Please” is an example of a current hit with some of that retro Pipettes-type songwriting and snarky attitude. (also Rose Dougall is now married to Graham Coxon of Blur, something I would have never seen coming back in the mid 00s.)
