I’m not gonna lie, Toto just came on in my head. Are you at all familiar with Zamrock? I like the idea of it but I looked around on YouTube and couldn’t really find any of the actual music that did anything for me.
Sub-Saharan music works best as elements in other music, like Indian music (like actual ragas are a fucking bore unless you’ve studied for years and/or are baked to the gills). I hear a lot of Pakistani pop music at work and frankly, most of it can stay over there. I like to think I’m musically open-minded but oy vey what a racket.
Youssou N’Dour is the quintessential shaved-head-glasses-black-turtleneck-New-York-Times-reading “serious” NPR douche music.
