I asked ChatGPT to translate the first seven lines of the Iliad into Persian in quantitative hexameter and it told me it was difficult to do so as Farsi is a stress-based language (English has this problem, too – the elegiacs and Asclepiads were specified to be quantitative). I asked it to translate the same seven lines into Persian in some other quantitative form, I don’t remember which. It replied that Persian poetry is quantitative (based on vowel length rather than stressed-unstressed as English does, which is qualitative). I asked how Persian poetry can be quantitative when the language is stress-based and it gave me some gobbledygook.

I think my mistake was that one reply gave Persian as Modern Farsi and the other, Classical Persian. I guess you could specify Farsi, Dari, and Tajik you could have any flavor of Persian you like.
