Hey, the motherboard came back from MSI yesterday, a little earlier than expected. I plan on building tomorrow.
The only thing about it is that MSI sends back RMA merchandise in repaired/working condition, and I still havr no way of knowing whether the board was bad or if I need to start the warranty process for the CPU and RAM. There’s no way of knowing without actually repairing a part and testing it. IOW it would have helped tremendously if they had included a slip saying it was either in good or bad working order when they got it. The quick turnaround is slightly ominous for this reason.
I really don’t want to build the computer a second time, have it not work, take it totally apart again, pay an arm and a leg to send two UPS packages (it’s damned expensive if you’re not with a business – $40 to senf the motherboard not taking into account the cost of insurance), wait another few weeks, then build the thing a third time. Building a computer is at least an all-afyernoon task, up to a day-and-a-half depending on how much goes wrong or if you need to run some errands. Preferably you have two days off in a row, though I only have one tomorrow (Saturday). I don’t have to build it from absolute scratch at least. That should save some hours.
Let’s hope the new board fixes it.
