The Rolling Stones, Get Your Ya Ya’s Out, and Neil Young, Live Rust and Weld, come to mind first. Those are the live albums that I listened to the most when I was 18/19 and that still hold up as as good as I thought they were at the time. I don’t know if that time period is especially important to me or if it was just a coincidence. Of those three, Ya Ya’s and Weld have overdubs (although I guess the video of Weld doesn’t?) so maybe Live Rust should win by default. I just read about whether those Neil Young albums were overdubbed on Steve Hoffman, so take it with a grain of salt.
Ladies and Gentlemen: The Rolling Stones might be better than Ya Ya’s, but I heard it much later and have spent less time with it, so it didn’t come to mind as instantly.
The Grateful Dead is the band that I find most worthwhile to hear a much of their live stuff as I can, but most of the Dick’s Picks and other archive releases are albums I haven’t heard that many times, because by the time I had access to all of them on streaming I was more likely to bing alot of different stuff than to spin one over and over until I knew it inside and out.
