Most of the songs were definitely overlong. I do think they were basically enjoyable songs though, and there’s a nice balance to the album somehow. Admittedly I can’t remember the last time I listened to the thing. Was probably about 2009.
And yes Time Out Of Mine has too many generic blues tracks on it. 90’s ‘fill up the whole damn cd’ syndrome.
I remember some of them were quite dramatically different on Tell Tell Signs. One of the generic blues tracks (Can’t Wait, I think), had this dreamy keyboard driven version that almost sounded like Pink Floyd.
There’s also a recent remixed version that removes all the Lenois production effects and sounds more like a regular late-period Dylan album. I listened to a little bit of it, and it does sound quite good. But I liked the creepy, dusty old atmosphere it had. I always found it funny that the acronym of the album is TOOM, because it sounds like it was recorded in one.
