I’ve heard of the idea that barcodes are the Mark of the Beast before, I don’t think that it was ever exclusively a hippie idea, it’s based on

Revelation 13:16-17

16 And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:

17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

The church that made that video did come out of the hippie counterculture though, and used free love as a recruitment tool.
