  1. Going from memory, I think Shields sued, but the suit was predicated on the pictures having harmed her reputation rather than subjectively traumatizing her or something. She lost (or it was thrown out, I don’t remember) since she had a successful career and there was no evidence that the pictures actually hurt it.

  2. I’m sure that if they were actually charged with something and had the chance to reduce or escape the charges by showing contrition, they would have been willing to cast aside their lofty ideals.

  3. Ha, how many examples have there been especially in the world of ’80s metal, of someone making a violent/misogynistic/satanic album cover and then trying to defuse the controversy by beginning people to take a close and nuanced look at their complex and Brechtian use of those controversial motifs.

I don’t hate Squeeze Box either, but it’s one of those songs that became a hit even though nobody actually seems to like it. I was still hearing it on the radio in the late ’90s.

I checked, and in 2014 they started playing it again after not playing it live since 1982.
