I mean, if I look at the track list, I guess I like or can at least tolerate 2/3 of it. The instrumental interludes are at least forgettably pointless, but ear bleeds like “Hare Krsna” and the two “Dreams Reoccurring”/”Reoccurring Dreams” tracks really bring the greater whole down. When Husker Du are bad, they are really really bad.

Candy Apple Grey isn’t their best batch of songs but it’s only 10 songs & only the piano ballad is godawful, so it’s probably the best entry point for a neophyte. If only they had combined the best of their two 1985 LPs (Wig & New Day) into one album, that would easily be a 5 star classic. Instead the material was spread over two albums that are each half great, half crap. If any band needed an editor....
