You really loved all that stuff when you were a kid?

The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air: I can still think of things from this that I like, but the show blew one of its biggest chances to right a horrible TV show cliche–the “very special episode”–when Ben Vereen showed up to play Will Smith’s shitty dad. The show actually nailed it when Uncle Phil and Ben Vereen were arguing, because a lesser show like Roseanne would have turned it into cheap audience pandering. Then Will ruins the whole scene with his still-shaky acting yelling “THE HELL WITH HIM!!!!!!!!!” about 50 decibels too loud. Most people think this scene is a masterpiece but I think Will Smith ruined it.

Peanuts - These would be sort of amusing to revisit now and then as a nostalgia kid thing, but I guess maybe some of the Garfield stuff would work the same way. One of my first childhood memories was the one with the little girl who had leukemia!

Walker, Texas Ranger: This wasn’t even taken seriously when it was on. You actually liked it?

Growing Pains - Yikes, dude. At least you didn’t pick Full House. I wonder if the “Matthew Perry dies” episode spiked in Youtube viewers after Perry died.

The Brady Bunch - Are there still people who like this unironically? Wow.

Here’s my answer, and I guarantee no one else will give it.

Dennis Miller Live.
I tuned into this every Friday night as an adolescent and thought Miller was speaking the truth on most things. The same way a whole generation felt about George Carlin, but I never much liked Carlin. Now I see that Miller was just a poor imitator who lobbed puffballs at his guests and gave really cheap “rants” that relied on loudness and profanity to mask uninteresting points. Or at least that’s what I think I’d see if I were to actually look any of this shit up and watch it, but since Miller turned into a right wing douche after the Monday Night Football debacle, I probably wouldn’t be able to at all. 14 year old me wasn’t too bright
