I don’t think that Tull were really having much of a comeback in 1987-89. The Grammy thing is sort of infamous, but it’s less because Tull won than because Metallica, then a band for the hip and in the know, lost. Crest Of A Knave is regarded by few as a “masterpiece,” although I guess it did sell a bit well. I should have specified “worst followup to a WELL-REGARDED best seller.”
Second Coming - A mess, but not a bad album.
Aladdin Sane - This album is okay, it’s no Ziggy but what is.
Smiley Smile - Decent bit of history for this one, though yes, it pales in comparison to PS.
