I bought Just Push Play when it came out and absolutely loathed it, to the point that it made me admit everything that was wrong with their entire “sell-out period,” which is not to say that I ever thought any of those other albums where anywhere near as bad. I have little to say about the individual songs, since there are only a few that I remember hearing again since 2001. The local classic rock station, which was probably still actively playing tracks from Nine Lives at that point, never played anything from it and the D.J.’s trashed it on the air. It was also the point where the media stopped treating them like a “current band,” probably after stuff like their Superbowl Show with N-Sync (remember that?) was met with disgust.

Outta Your Head was my pick for their nadir, both musically and lyrically.

Bricka bracka firecracker sis boom bah
Here comes trouble in a push-up bra

I imagine that my reaction would be much less visceral now, but I have no plans to sit through the album again anytime soon.
