The gameplay was definitely lacking and better graphics and megabits got to their brains and thats mainly what they focused on, which resulted in mediocre gimmicky games. Both systems probably had potential to be better but 32x graphics and games were underwhelming and its sad that the FMV gimmick was more widespread on Sega CD than games with actually decent gameplay and not ‘look theres video played on my video game system!” which 11 year old me ate up happily sadly. There are some outlier examples of good stuff though. I got my first exposure to pojnt and click type games through there too.

There are some pretty good Sega CD games regardless. That Sonic game is definitely known as the best but i haven’t played it much. I wish i did own it back in the day, so Sonic 2 became my favorite overall. Mainly for nostalgic purposes nowadays although those first few are still fun to play. I remember my friend had that game Sonic & Knuckles too for Genesis. That was pretty good too.

I don’t remember anything worth going back to with 32x. I mostly remember ports or remakes done better elsewhere. But i know some people have namedropped a few decent games on there before too
