Megalopolis reminds of late Peter Greenaway - more of a collection of quotations and references than a normal film. Like Adam Driver recites most of Hamlet’s cemetery soliloquy at one point, there are numerous references to Roman history, uses of silent film techniques, etc.
The crux of the film is that contemporary society is a spent and decadent force, so a garish color scheme makes sense thematically. But yeah it doesn’t look good at all
