I’m not sure how they got the name Jazz Butcher. To make it weirder, sometimes it’s just Pat Fish who is the butcher and the whole band is The Jazz Butcher Conspiracy but it’s not a consistent thing. Sometimes the whole band is The Jazz Butcher, and there doesn’t seem to be any kind of thing where one would be for more solo albums and the other, for a band collaboration. I guess it’s just Fish’s whims. The names are interchangeable and not confined to a certain decade or period.

You thought they’d be heady because of the word “jazz”, haha. I thought the same thing, that they would be experimental, with guitar pedals and improvised 20-minute synth noodlings: imagine my surprise when I downloaded A Scandal in Bohemia and it was light indie/college rock.

I’ve never heard TMBG other than the awful “Istanbul, Not Constantinople” (it’s fucking Constantinople. Losing it was a civilizational tragedy). Not really interested in them, mostly because I confuse them with Ween and I have no interest in [Ween] and in fact have never heard them at all.
