No, bands dont exist in that format anymore. pretty much as simple as that. The best rock band going right now IMO is King Gizzard and they aren’t going to hit top 40 anytime soon. (just saw them twice a couple weeks ago, fantastic shows, they’re a blast)

Sabrina Carpenter has put out like 5 or 6 albums already so it’s not like she hasnt been developing her sound for a while for what it’s worth. her earlier stuff isn’t as good from what ive sampled, but that’s no surprise. putting out some mediocre stuff hitting it big with a few great albums and then fizzling out is a pretty common trajectory for a pop star, probably what will happen here too.

I have a theory that the lack of rock bands these days is a side effect of modern culture encouraging groups of young dudes to spend their social time playing video games together instead of starting bands. Maybe that’s a cynical take and obviously loads of girls are hardcore gamers too, but i think making gaming your primary hobby and means of social interaction takes far more guys out of the running for starting bands than it does girls.

Have you heard The Last Dinner Party? They’re a pretty great new band, again 2024 showing the ladies killing it.

They also just released a Sparks cover as a single so they get a hundred bonus music nerd points.?si=oDNukowaH4XRfrTB
