Has any NES game generated more mixed emotions than the original TMNT?

It’s a cool game but at one point I decided that I would tough it out and beat it on emulator, but without cheating, and…no. I gave up. I can beat stuff like Castlevania III and Zelda II without cheating because you have unlimited continues. TMNT is too much for me. Also, aren’t there a weird number of huge useless areas in that game?
