I read one Tom Clancy book and didn’t mind it (The Sum Of All Fears) but it didn’t make me feel like doing lots of his books. I imagine Grisham would be the same way. Of the films made of his books I think A Time To Kill is the one people are still watching the most, but it’s probably because of lines like “yes they deserved to die, and I hope they burn in hell!” I remember stuff like The Pelican Brief and The Firm being hit movies, but it doesn’t seem like you hear about them much anymore. Similarly Michael Crichton seems to have mostly survived because of ER and Jurassic Park but I guess lots of people are still reading Andromeda Strain and watching Westworld. I don’t know that the lesser-received Crichton stuff like Congo and Sphere and Rising Sun is still much cared about at all (RS in particular is hilariously dated.)
It’s amazing we’ve gotten through this entire thread without mentioning Joel Schumacher.
