and unlike Catcher In The Rye, I felt it was a bad idea to be reading it for the first time at like age 34.
I can’t really remember what the problem was though. It wasn’t a bad book or anything, it’s just that I don’t recall anything about the book’s ideas being something hard to decipher as an adult. I suppose I would not mind it still being read by high schoolers (I remember an Ebert review of the 1990 movie claiming that the book used to be a lot more profound before society started to collapse.)
Weirdly, I hate A Separate Peace quite a lot less having re-read it as an adult.
I cannot name a single other thing William Golding ever wrote, possibly because I’ve got a zillion writers named “William” jumbled in my head.
