Brian Wilson did some great stuff with the Beach Boys with his newly built home studio. Of course it’s classic stuff today (smiley smile, wild honey,sunflower) but yes even in that case it was built right directly after their career went wildly downhill in the downfall of Smile.

Can’t think of who else have done good stuff with a home studio (except Butthole surfers with “locust abortion technician”). Not sure if any lo fi or bedroom pop artists (like Sebadoh) using 4 track recorders count. Probably not since theyre not really “studios” in professional sense.
