It’s a painful irony that by the time a musician can afford a home studio, their creative juices are spent and they end up recording a final mediocre album or two and never use it again. I know Phil Collins did this late in Genesis and with some of his solo stuff. Hall and Oates had their own studio IIRC, well after their hitmaking days. If Todd Rundgren (hi Derrick!) or Mike Oldfield doesn’t have full control of a studio, that’d be a mighty shame.
I dunno, whose home studios have borne worthwhile fruit? I know they’re out there.
- If I understand correctly, Neil Young had both a home and a recording studio at Broken Arrow Ranch - Joe Feb. 13 7:36 PM
