…All I really like is the mournful, creepy “Wings Wetted Down” and the closer “Mistress Of The Salmon Salt,” which has a cool Nuggets/60s-noir-style “quicklime girrrrtl!” repeated pop hook. Many of the guitar riffs, powerful though they are, still seem annoyingly recycled or generic. For example “The Red And The Black” blows your speakers out at first but then turns into a lame rehash of track 2 on the BOC debut album. “7 Screaming Diz-Busters” is the worst offender, starting off with a dark song title to get my attention and a cool quizzical-sounding weird riff–i.e., exactly what I look for in a BOC song–then turns into a boring, forgettable 7 minute jam. The weak link of their first four albums for sure.
