Yeah Psycho seems like it was a big deal to give films some realism again back then. It seems like it was a big event back then enough to where people were like “wow he had the balls to show a toilet flushing!”. Then even worse crazy shit comes to mind like Blood And Black Lace, precursor slasher stuff with blood and gore. Then again they were (and Blowup) imported from other countries. So maybe the French new wave boom and European cinema coming to America more helped shape things at the time. Interesting always to see the history of things and how things were changing over time.
