I got around to putting the games drive back into my old computer because it’s been three weeks and it will be some time more before I can play a game again. The drive – I won’t go into too much detail, as not to bore you – is an M.2 drive, which means it screws into the motherboard with the smallest screw I’ve ever seen in my life (it’s called M.2 because the screw is 2mm in diameter). Even with a magnetized screwdriver, they’re an absolute bitch to install, especially if you have big hands (a computer case is a very confined space in the first place), and it took 30-40 minutes to get the screw in. (The biggest myth in PC building is that M.2 drives are easy to install: simple, yes – you literally just plug in the drive and screw the screw – but not easy.) I’ve installed five of them and it never gets any easier. Regular hard drives and SSDs only take about five minutes to install despite having one more step (mount the drive, plug in the power cable, plug in the data cable.)

I’m off tomorrow (Wednesday), Friday, and Saturday, and I’ll try to take the defective motherboard out one of those days. I need to play some games, though! I just downloaded about ten games off GOG for their spring sale despite having a backlog of like 250 games over 5 years or so, because all together they were about 70% off. GOG is DRM-free so I’ll always be good.
