It is interesting to see these statistics here and i guess nothing seems too surprising.. Like Joe said I thought of Billdude right away when I saw REM. They are definitely not as forgotten as we think they are!

I really like hearing some forgotten hits from the past, old billboard hits no one really listens to or hears anywhere anymore. I’d much rather hear those most of the time than the same overplayed songs you hear every single day by the same bands. Of course theres dated crap that no one should really care to listen to anymore like Ray Stephens or whatever (the guy had 2 number one hits and they’re terrible).

Also apparently the 70s is the all time most popular and longest lasting decade huh? Definitely my favorite decade lately although it used to be the 60s.

Another similar thing I came across that is another way to see forgotten hits from back then was the Stereogum number one hits column that has reviews of just about every Billboard hot 100 number one hit from 1958 until present. I think it is still going (goes up to 2014 so far). I went thru a lot of them and it is a good interesting read for a Billboard hit geek like me.
