Honestly, I seriously considered leaving out “Modern Art” altogether, but then realized there’s a reason why so many prog albums have an acoustic instrumental as an intermezzo of sorts. So I ultimately chose to turn it into one, thinking in particular of “After the Ordeal” following “The Battle of Epping Forest”.

I can’t have been thinking of Wind & Wuthering when I originally wrote it, though. I wrote the melody in 2006, and didn’t hear any Genesis until 2007. Still have yet to hear W&W actually: I’m familiar with bits of it courtesy of the likes of Three Sides Live and Genesis Revisited II. Those don’t exactly inspire me to get it.

“Sussudio” with no synthesizers could potentially work quite well, I think! You could replace the synth brass with real horns or Hammond organ or something, and have violins and/or staccato flutes in place of the sparkles, etc.
