Well I hope all those young Leone fans get the Criterion box set of Budd Boetticher movies, since he was one of Leone’s and Peckinpah’s biggest influences. Some sort of alternate reality version of Ride the High Country would be part of that set if Boetticher hadn’t decided to spend 7 years making a documentary about a bull fighter. I like some of the Boetticher movies as much or more, but most of what I think of as most memorable in Ride the High Country seems to come from Peckinpah, so who knows what that movie would have been.
