regarding a decline in popularity for Ride the High Country and an increase for Pat Garrett.
Getting into film in my teens and early 20s, I definitely still had a perception of classic-era Westerns as dull and stodgy and spaghetti/revisionist Westerns as much cooler and more worthwhile. So I saw Pat Garrett early on and didn’t see Ride the High Country til my 30s. I have a suspicion that a lot of young cinephiles are like this, starting out with art house and genre pictures and more slowly getting into classic Hollywood fare. And this would show up in Letterboxd ratings and changes to TSP lists.
