I understand your point and I love Motown......and Bery Gordy, Holland Dozier Holland and The Funk Brothers applied their formula to each artist in the stable, adapting the material to their strengths....whether Marvin, Stevie, Smokey and the Miracles, Temps, Supremes, 4 Tops, Martha, etc. But back then that wasn’t the only thing played on mainstream radio - you could hear Motown, followed by British Invasion, West Coast Folk-rock, Stax sound, Phil Spector produced tunes, Beach Boys, pop......all diverse stuff sharing space on the charts together
