I do find this an interesting topic. I’ve noticed increasingly how artists that were once famous for many songs gradually get boiled down to just one or two hits that represents the entire band. It’s like the collective cultural memory only has so much capacity and has to regularly forget things to make room for new stuff.
Like ELO is the “Mr Blue Sky” band, Journey is the “Don’t Stop Believing” band, Yes is the “Roundabout” band and so on. And most listeners dont care to hear other songs. Like it doesnt matter how great I say other great ELO songs there are “Mr Blue Sky” is the only one anybody wants to hear.
