I’d pretty much say looking back the most logical stopping point with Of Montreal was False Priest. It’s a mixed bag (a 5 or 6/10 at best) and there’s a couple decent albums after it, but thats the last one that still felt like it had a little bit of the original spark still left for a majority of the album. Hissing Fauna and Icons Abstract Thee marked the end of their classic run though IMO.
GBV have a lot of infamy for their huge discography but they aren’t really that interesting of a band to explore all their albums imo. The main records leading up to their original breakup are enough for me. Everything since then is pleasent but interchangeable. Would get tedious going through all of those albums. Zappa and Dylan are worthy of course. They have bad albums too but at least theyre bad in interesting and varied ways.
