I guess The Wizard of Oz is still the 1930s movie that most people have actually seen, so really that probably still wins. But I think that people in their 40s or younger who get into classic film and actually know movies from that era are more likely to adopt It Happened One Night as a favorite. I rarely see Gone With the Wind mentioned anymore without discussion of how it’s “problematic.” My parents actually always liked The Greatest Show On Earth but I’ve never seen it. Return of the King isn’t really the type of thing I’m talking about. It’s a big FX spectacle with alot of popcorn-movie qualities, but the emotional content aims to be pretty heavy, with somebody trying to burn himself alive because he can’t accept the death of his son, and the Frodo leaving for the netherworld at the end because he can no longer live with normal people, ect.

I’m counting on Parasite being better than Snowpiercer, because I thought that the latter was pretty dumb. The basic premise might have made a serviceable 1980s Doctor Who serial.
