I kinda meant how many people today know about Bloch, etc.
Kubrick’s films seemed to have a habit of overshadowing the books they were based on or at least fighting with them. Hasford apparently was something of a nuisance on the set of FMJ and didn’t attend the Academy Awards in 1988 because he, Kubrick, and Michael Herr disputed how much Hasford contributed to the screenplay. Hasford also had a bizarre library-book hoarding habit in real life that got him in trouble with the law. I’ve never read The Short Timers (for that matter, I’ve never read Barry Lyndon, Red Alarm or Traumnovelle.)
The Prestige is decent as far as meaninglessly mysterious genre exercises go, though I haven’t really revisited it.
