I thought A Fire on the Deep was really good, but I haven’t read any of his other novels. I’ve read a few short storys, but he’s more remembered as a novelist. The prequel to A Fire on the Deep, A Deepness In the Sky, is often thought to be better, and I have it, so maybe I should read it soon.

I knew that he died, but I didn’t post it because I didn’t think people where would care. A bunch of significant SF writers have died recently. Michael Bishop, Howard Waldrop, and Terry Bisson are the ones I’ve read. Michael Flynn and Rajnar Vajra were frequent contributers to Analog Magazine for a long time, but they never got the literary respect that those other people did. I can’t think of anything I know by Christopher Priest and Brian Brian Stableford, but they’re big names. I never saw Nolan’s movie The Prestige, but it’s based on a book by priest.
