for whatever weird counterintuitive reason.
For the counterintuitive reason that they decided to make a new album that didn’t appeal to classic rock fans _at all _ (the D.J.’s on my local station openly mocked it on the air and said that they weren’t going to play it, and they played lots of comeback-era Aerosmith) and then promoted it by performing at the Superbowl with NSYNC, as if they (or rather, their handlers) thought that that was the the audience they should be catering to.
