Look, there’s really like two Coldplay songs I can stand and they’ve both long since been played to death. “Clocks” is not one of them, that’s one which I really never need to hear ever again. I have never listened to a Coldplay album all the way through and don’t even know what became of them, are they still popular or something? Is the singer dude who always looked like he had a bit of a down’s syndrome thing going on in photos still married to Gwyneth Paltrow or did she do too much crazy shit and leave him?
The most MBV-ish song the Pumpkins ever tried was “Mayonaise.” Not that they didn’t try other dream-pop songs, but classics like “Crush” and “Rhinoceros” weren’t really drawing from MBV that much as an influence.
The U2 songs I was thinking of were “Who’s Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses” and maybe “Tryin’ To Throw Your Arms Around The World.” “Ultra Violet” has a hint of shoegaze too.
