Super Mario Bros 3: There’s an old adage about a professor who wishes he could read Hamlet for the first time. I wish I could recall the feel when I was 7 or 8 years old and SMB3 seemed like not just the biggest, most towering video game in the world but like the biggest thing ever period. And it only takes me about six hours to beat. SMW is great too, the first game I ever owned, though I admit it’s still in my top 10 more for the memories than anything else (it’s admittedly fairly easy except for a couple of those special-world levels.)

Dragon Warrior 1-4:: I haven’t played these but I knew there was a lot of love for them. I’ve never played Sega’s Phantasy Star games either, nor Breath Of Fire, nor Lufia, nor Lunar…cripes, I missed a lot of ‘em. How long are the DW games?

SaGa Frontier I remember getting awful reviews in the day, people were stunned to think that the mighty Squaresoft had made a bad game.

I’ve played DOOM for all of maybe two hours total, and I kind of never liked it much. I just sort of hate how pixelly the monsters are, it’s weirdly easy to miss them and whatnot. My FPS education came from GoldenEye 007, so there’s that. I’m not eager to go back and give DOOM a second try, either.
As for Ultima…well, I’ve looked at maps of the game from like 1981. Isn’t the fourth supposed to be the best? Oh wait, you already mentioned the fourth. I can’t remember where I heard that–some guy’s list from back in the late 90s on some board…
